Two children drowned in a canal while picking water lily in Manikganj Sadar Upazila on yesterday. The accident took place in the afternoon in Kaira area under Dighi Union of Sadar Upazila. The deceased were - Anha Akter, 7, daughter of Sohel Kazi, a resident of Kajinagar village, and Sneha Akter, 7, daughter of Rafiq Sardar of Kharsatai area. The deceased were students of local Koira Madrasatul Ohi Al Islami Madrasah.
Police said the two children drowned in the water on their way home from Madrasa in the afternoon while picking water lily blooming in a canal on the side of the road. Later, local people rescued them and took to Manikganj Colonel Malek Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared them dead. Manikganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Aman Ullah confirmed it.
